Get, Set, Prep: Pre-Holi Tips!
Here are a few tips you should remember before you play Holi.
Apply lots of moisturiser on your face and body so that your skin is moisturised and there is a barrier from those harsh chemicals as well as to wash the colour off easily. You can also apply coconut oil on your body which will act as a barrier on your skin and not let any colour to sit on the skin,
Make sure you apply a thick layer of broad-spectrum sunscreen before you step out to play Holi. Not only does protect your skin from UV rays but it also helps stay away from the worst of chemicals and reactions. Make sure it’s a minimum SPF 30 and the formula is both water and sweat resistant.

Stop applying any retinol at least 3-4 days before Holi. Avoid any chemical peels or postpone your laser hair reduction session if you have one.
Apply a layer of petroleum jelly behind your ears, neck and lips–this will reduce the number of hours you’ll spend cleaning up after Holi.
Wear full-sleeved clothes made of breathable fabrics help to protect from the damage.
As for your hair, apply some coconut oil to avoid getting colour deposited on the roots and hair shaft. You can even cover with a cap or a scarf for further protection.
A lot of people complain about getting colours in their eyes that usually causes eye irritation. Try to wear sunglasses and keep lubricating eye drops handy.
It’s best to cut your nails since getting colour off from under the nail bed can take much longer. Apply a coat of nail oil to keep cuticles protected. Applying nail paint can also protect your nails from getting discoloured.
Avoid makeup at all costs. However, if you feel the need to indulge, you need to apply only waterproof makeup.
Keep yourself hydrated, holi colours can be extremely dehydrating for the skin. Sip on some fermented kaanji for the gut benefits and hydration.
If your skin is prone to allergy take an anti-allergic beforehand to keep allergies at bay.
It’s Time To Clean Up: Post-Holi Tips!
Now that you’re done playing Holi, it’s time to clean up your act.
Use an oil-based cleanser or facial oil to wipe your face before you step into the shower. Don’t be aggressive since the particles can seep inside, causing your skin to break out. Instead, dab in to your skin gently.
Dust off the color before getting in the shower. Stand under the shower for about 5 minutes letting the lighter colours wash off on their own. Then, use a shower gel with a loofah to get rid of the colour. Post shower damp dry your boy and apply a moisturizer with coconut oil all over the body to soothe. Avoid long hot showers and switch to warm to cold rinse instead.
Dust off any Holi color before washing your hair. Run your fingers through your hair to slough the colour off so that it comes off easily when you shampoo your hair. Wash your hair with preferably two different shampoos to get all the colour out. First, rinse with normal shampoo and then follow with an anti-dandruff shampoo with ketoconazole.

Make sure you keep yourself hydrated with coconut water, kanji, lemonade and infused water.
If you get a skin rash from the colours (called holi dermatoses), apply Flutivate cream to subside the flare up and pop in an anti allergic for three days.
For acne-prone skin, artificial colours can often cause in flare in breakouts. Keep your face clean and use a topical retinoid with benzoyl peroxide and nadoxin. You can take an antibiotic like doxycycline for a week in consultation with your dermatologist.
